August 13 - 16 Creating Compassionate Cultures: Awakening Compassion through Wisdom in our home, workplace, and Community Since 1989, Pam Cayton founder of Tara Redwood School, California, has created, researched and implemented strategies for awakening compassion, wisdom and social responsibility in the hearts and minds of children and young people. Inspired by the late Tibetan master, Lama Thubten Yeshe, this secular program blends the best of Eastern and Western approaches in education. The curriculum is suitable for people working with children of any faith or culture. Participants will leave with tools, strategies and a foundation in understanding this comprehensive, integrated approach to awakening knowledge, strength, and compassion. Inspired by Lama Yeshe's Vision for Universal Education, Pam founded the first pilot school for Essential Education in the west in 1989 and is now offering workshops for parents, teachers, therapists, and anyone who wants to create a more compassionate society and culture.

In these workshops you will:

  • Experience a range of practical tools and methods that you can immediately apply to transform family dynamics, work environments, classrooms, therapeutic approaches and educational environments.
  • Explore methodologies that reveal the logic of compassion employing reasoning, dialogue and reflection.
  • Practice techniques to transform your world, starting with your own mind.
  • Become familiar with a systematic step-by-step process to becoming a true source of happiness for yourself and others.

We hope you can join us in spreading this empowering, universal approach to a more compassionate world.

October 27-31, 2010 - Jennifer Wellwood Retreat

The great 14th century yogi Longchenpa, in his songs of realization, declared: Awakened mind is self-knowing awareness equal to space. This vast expanse . . . is timelessly and innately present in all beings. His words point to the Buddhist teaching that we all have an intrinsic nature that is wide open and wide awake. Realization is the process of learning to recognize and abide in that nature, while transformation is the process of learning to live from it in each moment of our lives. This requires methods and understandings that allow us to see, meet, and work with the body-mind patterning that arises from our unresolved psychological material, and that keeps us from stabilizing in our innate nature and remaining transparent to it. In this retreat we will integrate deep spiritual and psychological work in the service of becoming able to both realize and embody our deepest nature.

December 3 - December 5, 2010 - From Memory to Memoir writing workshop with author Laura Davis

All of us carry untold stories. Many of us dream of putting these stories down on the page. This workshop will teach you how to transform scraps of memory and old family stories into a rich written. We will address the question, "How can I transform a personal story into something that has value and meaning for readers?" You will leave this workshop with strategies for writing about events that happened years ago with fresh immediacy. "But how can I do that?" you might ask. "There's so much I don't remember." This workshop will answer that question by teaching you to capture the memories you do have, enhance recollections that are vague or unclear, and write effectively and powerfully even about the parts of your history it is impossible to know for sure. For more information or to register, go to: http://www.lauradavis.net/Retreats/memory.html or email Laura: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
